ART, INDUSTRY, AND HISTORY AT LOCK FEST 2007

In addition to the monotype printing activity at Lock Fest, mentioned above. this year's festival will again feature a Doorprize Drawing showcasing the work of Oregon's Daniel Robinson, printed on high-quality West Linn paper. All visitors will receive a free doorprize ticket that could win a set of our acid-free 2006 and 2007 large collector's posters, unframed.  Pick up a ticket when you enter the festival--one ticket per person.  Winners do not have to be present.

Willamette Falls Heritage Foundation will be raffling a custom-framed 2007 commemorative Lock Fest poster, featuring Robinson's "Powerhouse, 2002".  The West Linn mill image on the poster has been used with the artist's permission, to support the goals of Lock Fest:  to build appreciation for and preservation of the unique industrial and transporation heritage at Willamette Falls. Thanks to Annie Howden, at Howden Art in West Linn, for the beautiful framing job, with all conservation matte and glass. Tickets are at the front entrance to the festival, $1.

Featured on OPB's 'Art Beat', Robinson is a nationally recognized artist and author of "In Oregon", published by Nazraeli Press.  ("In Oregon" is a collection of 31 bold images of rural, small town, and industrial Oregon, including many paintings of the industrial areas near Willamette Falls. ) Dan's work is also on display during September in the De Soto Building in Portland's Pearl District and was the subject of a glowing article on the front page of the Living section of the Oregonian over Labor Day weekend.

Large size unframed posters will be available for sale in the Lock Fest Store booth for $25.  Robinson will be performing on our PGE History Stage this year at 10 a.m. with his Wheeler County Ramblers before signing some posters. Smaller posters will sell for $15.

In May 2006, Willamette Falls Heritage Foundation, through an anonymous gift, was able to donate a copy of "In Oregon" to the West Linn Library collection.

DON'T MISS OUR RELATED SHOW AT THE WEST LINN LIBRARY, SEPT. 2-29TH:

"ART ENCOUNTERS INDUSTRY--THE T.W. SULLIVAN ART JAM SHOW"
Work by Jonnel Covault, Laura Foster, Mark Rupert, Matthew Letzelter, Martha Wilcox and Jamee Linton shows a broad range of perspective of our artists on their exclusive visit to West Linn's historic TW Sullivan Hydroelectric facility, which has been producing power from Willamette Falls since 1895.

Visitors to Lock Fest on September 22, 2007 will be able to sign up for hourly "Paper & Power" tours of the mill and the Sullivan plant, on a first-come first-served basis, from 9 through 3 p.m., to see for themselves what our artists saw when they toured and photographed and sketched at the powerplant, under foundation and PGE supervision, for two days in May.

The resulting work, and their statements about it, is accompanied by a storyboard of the actual event, re-creating their contextual influences.  This event was co-sponsored by the West Linn Arts Commission, and has recently been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Clackamas County Cultural Coalition for the production of a catalog of the collection, for posterity.  This unique show will move to the Providence Milwaukie Medical Center gallery on October 9 and run for 90 days.
