Locks 2007 status
Thanks to the Oregon Solutions "One Willamette" working group and an Oregon Department of Transportation-managed federal grant, Willamette Falls Locks and Navigation Canal was open from May to October again in 2007.
We do not know if Congress will authorize funding for the coming 2008 boating season. At this point the locks will not be operating, by rule of the Dam Safety Inspector for the Corps, until an overdue, $511,000 Hydraulic and Steel Structures inspection has been completed.
Under the guidance of convener Verne Duncan, the Oregon Solutions Willamette Falls Locks taskgroup continues to work toward future operations and a new stewardship arrangement for our 134-year-old resource.
